What does "In Progress" mean?
An In Progress document is an active placeholder still being worked on in the Tasks tab. The document is still a draft — someone has an open task on it. That someone may well be you.
The flag clears once the document is finished.
The document is already signed or uploaded — why does it still say In Progress?
Because the task behind it is still open. The most common reason is how the document was uploaded: ticking Map during upload turns the file into an active task placeholder, so it lands in the Tasks tab and shows as In Progress even though the signed file is already there.
To upload a document that does not need to be signed:
Click + Add Document from the relevant task list — Representation, Offer, or Executed Contract Tasks.
Select Upload Documents and choose the file, without ticking Map.
Executed documents belong in the Documents tab. See Uploading Documents & Document Templates.
If the signed document is genuinely finished and the task is just left open, close the task — see below.
An In Progress document is blocking my Submit for Review
Yes, that is expected. If an In Progress document is attached to a required requirement, Jointly will not let that side be submitted and shows "Please complete this document before submitting for review."
Finish the document, or close its task, and the block lifts.
The work is done — how do I close the task?
Hover over the document in your tasks queue and click the checkmark icon. Confirm you want to mark it as completed.
The document leaves your tasks queue and the In Progress flag comes off it on the Documents page.
Read the confirmation before you click it. Marking a task completed:
closes the task for everyone on the deal, not only for you;
on a document task, means you will no longer be able to draft that document or send it for signature.
So use it when the work has genuinely happened — the document was signed outside Jointly, or the step no longer applies — and not simply to tidy your list.
I need to remove a document or task I do not need
Use Delete, not the checkmark. Hover over the task and click the trash icon, then confirm. Jointly warns that this action cannot be undone; the task is removed from the deal.
The trash icon does not appear on every task — some tasks cannot be deleted from the deal at all.
Should I delete it or mark it completed?
What you want | What to click |
The step is handled and you want it closed | Checkmark — Mark as Completed |
The document or task does not belong in this transaction | Trash — Delete |
Who can do this?
Agents and team members with edit access on the task. Clients do not see either control. Both are only available while the task is still open — once it is completed, the icons are gone.
